Salaatul Janaazah – The Funeral Prayer

·         If 40 people upon tawheed pray Salaatul Janaazah over the deceased it will be an intercession for him.

·         Men and women pray Salaatul Janaazah.

·         Stand at the head of the deceased if it is a male or in the middle if the deceased is a female.

·         There are no rukoo’ or sujood. The prayer is performed with standing only.

·         It is a quiet prayer with only the takbeer and salaam read aloud.
The pronoun will need to be changed if the deceased is a woman or more than one.

1st Takbeer الله أكبر	أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (1)  الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (2)  الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (3)  مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ (4)  إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ (5)  اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ (6)  صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ (7 قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ (1) اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ (2) لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ	Suratul Faatihah (obligatory) + a small surah like Suratul ‘Asr or Suratul Ikhlaas (optional extra)
2nd Takbeer الله أكبر	اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ, وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ, كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ, وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ, إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ, اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ, وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ, كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ, وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ, إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ	Salaah upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
3rd Takbeer الله أكبر	- اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهُ وَلاَ تُضِلَّنَا بَعْدَهُ (Ahmad 2/368; Tirmidhee 241) - اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ وَنَقِّهِ مِنْ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنْ الدَّنَسِ وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ أَوْ مِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ  (Saheeh Muslim 963) Click here for the dua above said over a female person who has died	Du’aa for the deceased Choose any that you wish
4th Takbeer الله أكبر	Pause then say salaam to the right side only: السلام عليكم ورحمة الله	Salaam to end the salaah
